Thanksgiving

Today is Thanksgiving. A day, or weekend, where people stop to be grateful for what we have. We probably should be more thankful more often but at least we focus more on it at this time of year.

As a basketball coach, I have a ton to be grateful for.

For one I get paid to coach a game that I love. Not a bad gig.

Another reason to be thankful is that I get to help influence young ladies to become better people and help them prepare for success in "the real world"

This season has given me a different reason to be thankful and I know all of the reasons are not visible yet.

I was spoiled for a long time as a coach. While we worked hard as a staff, we were blessed with tremendous players who were also great people. People see the record of 5 titles, CIS Medals, 9 championship games in 10 years and during that time we had a winning percentage of over 80%.

The thing that stands out when I look at all of that though is the players. Thinking of the all stars we have had over that time...
Amanda Fisher
Kim Reynolds
Heather Ross
Kelli McHugh
Maureen Murrin
Natasha Eadie
Debbie Ruiz
Tamara Alleyne
Kari Everett
Kelsey Hodgson
Karmen Brown
Nicole Works
Jahlica Kirnon
Tanira McClurkin

Even though they weren't all stars, I couldn't point out players without talking about the extreme value of Cecy Romero, Cheryl Pittman, Sharalee Dempster and Stephanie Toxopeus on our title teams.

That is an all star team in itself. I've been blessed to say the least but add in the other personalities and crucial pieces of the success we have had and all I can say is I have to take a breath and say WOW.

I know I could ramble on for days about these players and tell stories about all of them but I don't want to leave players out.

The list of characters is endless and I am proud of all of the players who have represented CBU and bled Orange. There are a great deal of success stories in the work world for them and there are a lot of great people in my history here but more importantly now there are a lot of FABULOUS Mothers.

So to Fishy, HR, Mo, Kobe and Shaq, T, Turbo, Kels, Nick,  Mrs. Fruity Lips, J, Eadie, Rviz, Kim, Nunner, Big Show, Goose, Chucky, Spizz, Jules, Big Stephy, Linds, Mir, Mandarella ....
I am proud of how you have grown as young women and I am thankful for the opportunity to have you in our program.

After a few tough years in the "team" department I can say that I really enjoy the people on our team this year. I think they are going to show CAPERS fans that they will do whatever they can to represent the uniform they wear in a first class manner.

Hopefully at the end of the year all of our fans will be thankful that they took the time to come out and watch us.
