Here we are in the middle of October already. The pre-season games are upon us.
Since the last update we have had more and more practice. While coaches love to practice and try to get better, I can see that the girls really want to play. There is always the point where you have practiced for what seems like 6 months without playing. This weekend will be a great test for us and allow us to measure where we are at this point of the year.
We have spent the majority of the last 4 weeks with a banged up roster. We just began going 5 on 5 on a consistent basis in practice last week. So while we may not be where we want to be in a lot of areas, we are much further ahead in some areas. What I can say is that, for the most part, we are working hard.
We have spent a lot of time working on our breakdown drills for offense and defense. Focusing on some of the details that need to be covered. Now we are putting it all together and while it is a little sloppy, it is getting better.
What I have learned over the years is that you get to a certain point where you really can't put in a lot more things on offense or defense, they just have to play. We won't be doing many things that are new this week as it will bog things down. Once we play, we can evaluate our progress, make adjustments and add new things.
This weekend we play in the Nike Shoot for the Cure tourney at Bishops University in Lennoxville, Quebec. On Friday we play Brock, Saturday we play Bishops and on Sunday we play Trinity Western. I am kind of excited to see this group play together and to get them on the road together. Road trips can be a good thing for young teams as they get a chance to bond together and we can continue to build our team.
Next week we play on a tour of Ontario with a game on Friday, Oct. 25 at 6pm vs McMaster, Saturday, Oct. 26 at 7pm at Univ of Toronto and Sunday Oct. 27 at 1pm at York University.
Looking forward to getting started. We will keep you updated as the games happen
